How you apply your keyword research to your website is just as important as the research itself!

Keyword Research for SEO
On-Page Keyword Optimization:  Optimal keyword usage involves using your targeted keyword(s) in every HTML element you can.
If you seriously want to rank in search engines for a key-phrase, your target key-phrase should always appear in:
  1. The URL address (i.e., http://www.example.com/key-phrase.html)
  2. The (meta) title tag
  3. The H1 tag
  4. The (meta) description tag
  5. At least 1 image alt tag (if possible)
  6. Other H tags (i.e., H2, H3, etc.)
A general rule of thumb is to use the target key-phrase closer to the beginning of the phrase it is found in. You should also use bold, italics, and underlines on your keywords at least once per topic. Whatever words you emphasize visually to your visitors, will tend to be what they focus on. Knowing this, Google recognizes when people are writing content that is more likely to have real value because these emphasized words match up with their keywords. They also recognize when people are just "keyword stuffing".
