Web Developer Courses

A step-by-step walkthrough of how to build a website for beginners

The first step to building your own website is to learn the basics of HTML and CSS. There are many websites with helpful tutorials that can help you master these fundamental languages.

Personally, I have found these to be among the most useful web developer courses that are free for anyone to use:
  • W3Schools
  • Codecademy
  • Google Code
  • Code School - Web Developer Courses
  • Code School - Discover DevTools

There are countless other options out there, find the one that works best for you and you'll be well on your way to creating your own website.

Once you have gotten the basics of HTML and CSS, you should re-enforce what you have learned with a lot of practice. HTML and CSS, like any foreign language, is easily forgotten if not put into practice.

So now what?
The answer really depends on what you want to accomplish in website design:

Which of the following best describes you?

Create a poll like this

If your answer is personal education related and/or you have no pressure to complete a website in any particular time frame, I would suggest that you continue building on your knowledge by learning JavaScript.

If your answer is business related or with the intention of generating revenue, you might have less time to develop your knowledge of more complex web design and programming languages. If time is not your friend and you need to get a website up and running immediately, I suggest you check out these sites for a quick and FREE solution.

Otherwise, the limitations that you face without a basic understanding of JavaScript will affect your ability to add functionality to your website. JavaScript adds a dynamic element of interactivity to websites. You can build simple websites without JavaScript, but with it you can freely build your website the way you imagine.
